frequently asked questions

I have sensitive skin, what products do your stylists use?

All make up artists kits contain a variety of tried and tested professional and luxury products. All our make up artists use skin care and make up personally tailored to you skin type and preferences. We love commercial brands such as YSL, Dior, Kevyn Aucoin, Tom Ford, Nars, Chanel and Shu Uemura as well as professional ranges like Dermablend, Ben Nye, Kryolan, Face Atelier and MaqPro. We will always try to accomodate sensitive skin types and are happy to incorporate any of your own items where preferred. Please do communicate any allergies at the time of your booking. We are happy to talk through any worries or concerns, especially regarding skin.

My natural hair lacks volume, how can I acheive red carpet hair?

Our hair stylists can advise if your chosen style will be enhanced with the addition of clip in extensions or pieces. These can be customised to add volume or length, creating a completely natural look. We can also advise you on the purchase of any pieces required. We are happy to work with your own pieces, which should be 100% human hair in order to be heat styled.

What locations do you cover?

We offer services all over the UK and internationally. In the past few years we have travelled to Scotland, Belfast, Frankfurt, Paris, Barcelona, Geneva, Lake Como, Los Angeles and Koh Samui. We just ask that travel, accomodation and expenses are covered by the client.

Will I need to re-apply my make up after the application?

We will use skincare and cosmetics most suited to you skin type to ensure the best possible longevity for you chosen look. Your artist will advise how best to maintain your look, to help it last throughout the day or evening. We would usually suggest carrying a lip colour, blotting sheets and a powder to keep your face fresh. Your artist will talk you through any additional requirements specific to your own skin type and chosen look.

What happens if my stylist is unable to keep my appoinment due to illness?

At The Atelier, we work as a team and we always have an artist free to stand in just in case of emergency. We will pass on all details from your consultation and/or photos from your trial to enable another artist to recreate your look. Our artists are expected to work to a brief on every shoot, so you can be resassured that your look will not be at all compromised.

When should I have my bridal trial?

Once you have chosen your dress and the accessories for your wedding day, you can begin to think about your look. We advise all brides to collect inspiration images for our artists and to perhaps have had at least one fitting for your dress so that you can imagine yourself on The Big Day. This is a good time to book your trial as you will have a clearer idea of what you would like to acheive. We recommend trying several hair styles and make up looks to ensure you are completely happy with your chosen look. Your artist will fully note your preferences and take photographs for your reference, ensuring that preparations will run smoothly on the day.

What should I do to prepare for my make up application?

You should have a  clean, fresh face, free of any traces of make up remover. Please make sure that any residue from oil based removers has been thoroughly cleansed away. Please refrain from moisturising directly before you appoinment as our artists will use professional primers specific to your skin type and make up application. It is also advised that brow treatments are carried out at least three days before your appointment.

How should I prepare my hair for my stylist?

Please make sure you hair is clean, completely dry and free of product, ready for styling. If you are getting a blow dry style, please make sure your hair is shampooed and conditioned with no styling products and towel dried.

My Hair is really thick and has a lot of texture with curls, I would like a smooth style, what should I do to prepare?

If your hair is textured, coarse and curly we recommend that you smooth the hair the night before styling services. Your chosen style will hold curl and style better, ensuring you receive the maximum benefits of a longer lasting style that is polished.
